Read Luke 3
Think
Today we think of John the Baptist whose went into all the
region around the Jordan:
…proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of
sins…
And crowds of people came to participate in this baptism;
the hope of making a new start – the desire to be different. But John warns them: ‘bear fruits worthy of
repentance’
Its easy to accept the grace of baptism; the promise of a
new beginning – but we need help to be the people God calls us to be. John prophesies about Jesus:
“He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.”
We all want to make a new start, but a true new beginning is
only possible with the Holy Spirit’s help.
Pray
Speaking about the Holy Spirit, Jesus says:
‘Ask, and it will be given you, search and you will find;
knock and the door will be opened for you.’
- Luke 11:9
Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, to help you become the
person you are called to be. It might be
helpful to hold your hands open in your lap as a sign of your willingness to
receive.
